History of Sealdah Metro Station
The foundation stone for the east west project was laid long back in 2009 by the then chief minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. However there were many delays with the work amidst a lot of political controversies. But finally the metro was all set to open in March 2022 but that got delayed too. And then on the 11th of July in 2022 Union Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated the Sealdah Metro Station which is the underground metro station. With that the stretch from Salt Lake Sector 5 to Sealdah Metro started officially on the 14th of July 2022. The construction cost of the 2.33 km stretch from Phoolbagan to Sealdah cost 1250 crore. With the further extension till the Howrah Maidan the route will be 16.6 km in length. Here 10.8 km from Phoolbagan to Howrah will be the underground corridor built under the Hooghly River.

Facilities and amenities of Sealdah Metro
The Sealdah metro is 16 meters deep and also has all the necessary amenities and facilities to make communication easier. This station is a three tier metro station and is 1.5 times larger in size than the Phool Bagan Metro Station. It also has an island platform here that helps people to get off from the coaches of the metro rails. In total there are 4 platforms including the island platform and the side platforms. With entry and exit gates at the street level it further makes access to this station easier.
Also the metro station has a mezzanine floor that has the ticket counters. There are automatic ticket vending machines here as well. Along with that the same floor has a fire control, station agent and some shops. This metro station also has facilities like lifts, escalators, disabled access, parking, fire alarms, and safety emergency doors.
